Aleksa Novaković is BC Vienna’s first new signing ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 29-year-old Serbian small forward joins the club from Hungarian champion Falco KC Szombathely. At 6-foot-7, Novaković brings experience from the AdmiralBet ABA League and international club competitions.
“I am really looking forward to getting started,” Novaković said. “The conversations with the coach and the club’s vision convinced me and played a decisive role in my decision to join BC Vienna.”
FROM THE UNITED STATES BACK TO EUROPE
Novaković was born in Belgrade. As a child, he was initially interested in swimming and tennis before discovering basketball through a trial practice.
At 18, he moved to the United States and joined Findlay Prep in Nevada, one of the country’s most successful high school basketball programs. He continued his career at Eastern Illinois University in NCAA Division I during the 2015/16 season.
After returning to Europe, Novaković began his professional career in Italy. He played for We’re Basket Ortona and Nuovo Basket Aquilano before returning to Serbia, where he represented Mladost Zemun and Novi Pazar.
Novaković later developed into a key player at Borac Čačak and established himself in the ABA League before moving to Russia to join Pari Nizhny Novgorod.
CHAMPION AND EUROPE CUP FINAL FOUR WITH FALCO
Novaković spent the past two seasons with Falco KC Szombathely, competing in both the FIBA Basketball Champions League and the FIBA Europe Cup.
He won the Hungarian championship with Falco in 2026 and helped the club reach the Europe Cup Final Four.
Novaković averaged 7.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists across 16 European appearances last season.
He also attracted attention at the international level. In 2022, then-Serbia head coach Svetislav Pešić included Novaković in the extended roster for the FIBA Basketball World Cup European Qualifiers.
EXPERIENCE AND VERSATILITY
For new head coach Dragan Bajić, Novaković’s international experience and versatility were key factors behind the signing.
“With Aleksa, it was particularly important to me that he already knows the ABA League and has also played in Russia,” Bajić said. “He spent the past two seasons in Hungary, where he won a title with Falco.”
Bajić also highlighted the forward’s ability to contribute in different roles.
“Offensively, he can take on different responsibilities and is a good outside shooter,” Bajić said. “He is also versatile defensively and can guard players from positions one through five.”
Novaković is confident about what the team can achieve next season.
“Because I know Coach Bajić’s work, I am convinced that we can have a successful season.”
